InterContinental Resort Berchtesgaden, Germany

The luxury hotel business in the Alps has a new star: Germany’s very first mountain resort - the InterContinental Resort Berchtesgaden – opened its doors in the beginning of March.

The hotel has been built in a spectacular horseshoe formation around the crown of a hill affording stunning views of Mount Watzmann, Germany’s second highest mountain. The resort offers a total of 138 rooms and suites of varying categories. All rooms are equipped with Elsafe Sentinel Advanced as well as with VingCard Classic Combo with the software VISION Advanced.

The focal point of all rooms is the stunning panorama which guests can even enjoy from the comfort of the bed. Some rooms and suites even have an open fireplace adding to the unique atmosphere bestowed by the extensive use of natural stone, coloured glass and wood.

Facilities include a mini bar, ISDN telephone with two connections, mail box, data port, high-speed Internet access, digital TV with 60 international channels, pay-TV, videos on demand and a radio.

The bathrooms are clad in Dolomite Verde, a particularly attractive green hued marble, and have large baths and separate rainwater showers. Each suite bathroom has a window to allow guests to enjoy the views whilst relaxing in the bath. Further amenities include heated, well-lit mirrors, under-floor heating, bathrobes, telephone and the provision of exclusive cosmetic articles.

Berchtesgaden is a spa area renowned for the beneficial properties of its clear mountain air and for the range of arts, cultural and sports activities on offer: museums, exhibitions, concerts, walking, golf, tennis, summer sledding, all-year ice skating in the ice-rink as well as cross country skiing, downhill skiing and snowboarding on the slopes on Eckerbichl and Roßfeld. The hotel’s dedicated events’ team will be at hand to compile tailor-made tours for guests many of which will include a trip to the world famous Lake Königsee.

In summer the large nine-hole Berchtesgaden Golf Club course (62 hectares) next to the hotel provides a wonderful opportunity to play a round of golf on Germany’s highest golf course which lies some 1000 metres above sea level. In winter, resort guests have direct access to the ski slopes on Eckerbichl.
