New Zealand’s first smart hotel integrates digital key functionality into property’s ‘mia’ mobile app

Customer:

A newly opened property in Queenstown, New Zealand, mi-pad Queenstown is recognized as the country’s first smart hotel, with guests able to manage and personalize their experience using the property’s mia app. Features available via mia include the ability to control guestroom amenities such as thermostats and lighting.

Challenge

With a mission to provide guests with the latest in technology, sustainability and comfort, mi-pad Queenstown leadership sought out a solution that could cater to today’s guest preferences for instant service and reduced waiting times. While already offering several convenience-enhancing services through its mia app, the hotel strived for an ability to provide guests with a seamless check-in experience; one that eliminates the need to wait in line at the front desk and instead allow guests to begin enjoying their hotel stay experience immediately.

Solution:

With the implementation of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Mobile Access, guests staying at the mi-pad Queenstown can now take enhanced convenience a step further by using their own personal devices as a digital guestroom key.  Provided as a feature of the property’s ‘mia’ app, Mobile Access now forms a vital part of mi-pad’s strategy to provide its guests with a next generation hotel stay experience.  Those arriving with mia already downloaded on their device are instantly and securely able to access their guestrooms from the moment that they receive room number and digital key information. While offering enhanced convenience, ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Mobile Access vitally also leverages advanced encryption technology to safeguard digital key and room number information from data theft and unauthorized access. Once generated, such data is transmitted to guest devices using a secure communications channel and is then stored inside a digital vault within the hotel’s app.

With the additional implementation of VingCard Allure door locks, mi-pad Queenstown not only gains a platform that is fully compatible with ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Mobile Access, but also one that offers an array of unique features. These include the ability to customize the panel’s background with colors and designs that accentuate a property’s unique style and brand, and an optional guestroom-facing touch panel that allows guests to post notifications such as Do Not Disturb” and “Make Up Room.”
